The story of the word "the"

(0) Once apon a time, a long time ago, there was no word "the." So this is how people talked, "Where is bathroom?" or, "I am new dog walker." People felt kind of funny talking like this. So one day, two young kids (their names were Annie and Nonomous)decided to make up a word. (Annie Nonomous, Age 8 to 12, 3/22/2006 9:56:48 PM, storyofthewordthe)

(2) One day Annie said to Nonomous " clouds in sky are beautiful" Finally Nonomous said "I am tired of talking in sentances that dont make sence. Lets think up of a new word". Both of them thought for a while "there, this, a,..."and the list went on and on. (4) All of a sudden, Nonomous inquired, "Hey, where'd you get idea to call word 'the'? It sounds funny!" Annie laughed. "It sounds like foreign word other people use. Anyway, it will sound funny for long time!" Then Nonomous decided on a simple idea. They would start to use the new word regularly and then other people would settle on it! (8) One day Annie and Nonomous went to the town square with their parents. "Wow!" exclaimed Annie, 'I really think THE apples at THE stand over there look THE best!" (10) "Of course we'll use your new word kids!" Annie's father said quickly with a sharp look at his wife, "Whatever you kids want to do is fine with us and we'l support you all THE way!" So Annie and Nonommous's parents stared using the word THE and eventually they got used to the word and because Annie and Nonomous's parents were well known and influential people in the community many people caught on to the word and started to accept it.
