The Falconer Student (0) The old,old man peered out the window. He was curious, for there had been a commotion earlier. However, all he could see was a man, old like himself. The man carried a baby. the old man opened the door and invited him in . The man smiled and and said "Please raise the baby"and than he left. (Falconfan, and Fantasyfan, Age 8 to 12, 3/8/2003 8:09:03 PM, The_Falconer_Student) (1) The man stared at the sleeping baby in his arms. "Wait a moment, he called out. "I can't raise a baby now. I have my studies and when I die, who will take care of him?" But the man had left. "Well, I guess that I will be stuck with you for a while." The man said thoughtfully. "But what shall I do?" he thought. "I have my studies and I am getting old. How shall I raise this young one? This baby will never really have a chance. I can't give this baby a good home. The little one shows so uch promise. Just like Peter." Peter was the old man's son who was killed in the The War of the Seas. Peter was supposed to take the old man's place after he died. The old man also had a daughter named Doreen, who had looked so much like her mother. She too, died during the war when she caught a disease that the soldiers had. After the deaths of his children, the man had become a sort of ghost, not talking to anyone, not going out to meetings, not even attending the church. His heart had hardened, because hr didn't want to hurt anymore. He had kept himself for his studies. (sophian, Age 8 to 12, 6/16/2003 4:06:33 PM, The_Falconer_Student) (2) however, thought the man, there was one creature that had foundit's wayto his heart.doreen, thehawk. he looked at the baby.he laughed. "That's all I need to know, Lyn the past is not as important as the future." "I know" I sighed still fighting back tears. "I'm going to the Falconry."I said and I went out. I went and saw I went to see Doreen she was the only friend I had, "I don't Know what to do Dory Father is having me married off to the next man who proves himselve, I Know he only wants the best for me, but I would rather go off to the school for boys where they teach archery, falconry, and fencing." I sighed "Boys are get to do all the fun stuff" I sat on a box and sighed again at least I have you" I said. "Not many girls have a hawk for a friend" I sighed for a third time "What will happen will happen and you should except it."I turned around not beliving what I saw Doreen was talking to me!!! (S.K.M., Age 13 to 18, 10/24/2003 6:19:25 PM, The_Falconer_Student) (4) "Come now Lyn. I sure girls get to do good things too." Lyn jumped but quickly recovered. "Yes." she answered sarcastically. "Like sewing and dancing. And staying inside, wasting every single sunny day." she sighed. "I'm sure that your father knows what's best." she said, almost yawning and getting ready to go to sleep. "You know, sometimes, I'm not sure that he does. Sometimes, he looks at me with a sad sort of look. Like he wants something. I really wish I was a boy. THen, I would be able to go into my father's footsteps." The door opened suddenly, and light flowed in, nearly blinding her. "Lyn. There's a young man here to see you." "I'm coming Father." she sighed again at the thought of the evening. (sophian, Age 8 to 12, 1/16/2004 4:21:12 PM, The_Falconer_Student) (5) "I would love to see your embroidery after our meal. I see that you have skillled hands for such work." Lyn looked down at her hands which were callused and knew that he was just desperately trying to start up conversation. "I'm .....not very interested in embroidery. I think that I'm more inclined to the archery and fencing area. Maybe even falconry." He looked surprised. Of course, she thought slightly bitterly. But why on earth did they always come?? Surely they had heard about her "wildness" and she definately did not have a vast fortune undr her control. And although she wasn't ugly, she had no tremendous beauty. She did have pretty brown eyes and long black hair, but that was the extent of it. She was nothing compared to her mother, Isabella with her beatiful blond hair and ocean blue eyes. (sophian, Age 8 to 12, 1/16/2004 4:44:45 PM, The_Falconer_Student) (6) Isabella died of a horrible STD. Which caused her insides to burst and flow out her mouth. Lyn says "I don't want you, you might have that STD that my mother caught from that dirty soldier." Josh looked surprised. "I don't have any STDs. WHY WOULD YOU EVER THINK THAT?! But YOU might because you play with falcons ALL DAY!" Lyn screamed, "I LOVE THOSE BIG BEAUTIFUL BIRDS! AND YOU CAN'T STOP ME FROM WANTING TO BE A Falconer!" Josh slapped Lyn in her face. "Don't you ever yell at me! I will smack you so hard your MOM WILL FEEL IT!" Josh said with a rage of anger. Lyn put her hand on her cheek and screamed "BUT I LOVE YOU! EVEN IF YOU BEAT ME!! DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE IN THIS COLD DARK WORLD, YOU ARE ALL I HAVE (and the falcons but that's beside the point)!" Josh slapped her over and over and over and over and over until her face was bloody and had flesh wounds everywhere. Josh said "Darn you! Now look what you made me do, now you are 15,452,854,958 times uglier!" "But I am beautiful on the inside! Just because I am 15,452,854,958 times uglier doesn't mean YOU HAVE TO STOP LOVING ME!" she said crying. "True, but your the ugliest thing I have ever seen since your dad's body was decaying on the dining room table." Josh said. Then he slapped her one final time to get his point across that he would never love such an ugly woman like her. But he decided to drop kick her as he left. "See you later ugly!" he screamed as he slammed the door in her face. (Callimaka, Age 1 to 4, 1/31/2004 9:36:30 PM, The_Falconer_Student) (7) Skip that paragraph...
