(0) Lily Evans, age 15, walked into her dormitory where two other girls were talking. She had just gotten back from breakfast and had to tell someone about how annoyingly immature the Marauders, James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew, were being. "Lils, you look beat," said Jenny Martin, one of Lily's best friends. "What's wrong, Lily?" Donna Walters asked Lily. "Let me guess," Jenny said. "Marauders?" Lily nodded in response. (10) all this continued for three days without interuption.People were content with it becouse thats how things usually were.But things were soon to change, and not for the better.You see people at Hogwarts were soon to see a kind of horror you only see in nightmares,and very oddly even in dreams.Some believe it all started one day late in the fall when two new students came to the school.But that is not completly true.It begins with a seies of events that get worse as they go along.In later years the people of Hogwarts would tell you, with ligering fear,that had they known what was in store for them,they would have fallen to their knees and prayed to all the gods they knew of to have mercy on them.They would have gien anything not to have gone through the horror of it...even sacrifice their own... (12) (Nods).Well,anyway as Lily picked up her muggle book to the Gryffindor common room,she felt a hand on her shoulder,it was Donna."Lily,are you alright?",she asked."You have'nt been eating in awhile",she added.Lily tried to manage a smile and replied,"Donna,i'm quite alright,y'know.I'm fine.Trust me."Donna looked at her as if she was looking right through her,she did'nt look convinced at all."Well,okay then,promise me you'll eat today at lunch?",Donna asked awkardly."Yes,i will.Promise",Lily replied.Later that day,she thought all about that old dream over and over again.Deep down,she was deeply in love with James,but that dream....it was quite weird.She had a little crush on him since last year and now since she was developing a bit more,it became love.It wasn't quite about his looks,it was something else inside of him...after taking a quick walk out in the halls,she saw a figure with unruly,black hair.It was James."James!",Lily said."What are you doing here?!".James smiled,"i thought Hogwarts was a free territory",he gave her a sly grin."Lily,what's wrong",he asked,seeing the look on Lily's face.Her bright face looked a bit miserable,but it quickly changed."Oh,it's nothing",Lily shrugged.She figured that she would tell him when the time was right,but decided againist it.She would know when.James looked up at Lily once more and laughed his head off."WHAT is so funny?!",Lily said in response."Nonthing,nothing at all",James spitted after laughing.He could'nt stop,his cheeks were giving way,but the he slowly relaxed."I got detention with Sirius from Professor Neptune".Lily shook her head and crossed her arms."So",James replied."Do you want to walk to the Great Hall?".Lily looked taken aback."S-sure,James".They walked on and did'nt notice someone at the stairs.It was the Marauders and Lily two best friends,Jenny and Donna,laughing silently and in awe.They had a plan that would just be the beggining of their 5th year. (17) James looked up suddenly from the homework he'd been working on for Proffesor Magonagol.His eyes narrowed as a thought struck him.He couldn't here Sirus or Remus arguing as was there custom in the evenings,nor could he here Peter making that annoying sniviling sound he usually made.He sat back in his chair and rubbed his temples.He thought for a minute and suddenly remembered a coment Sirus had made earlier in the day.He had said it casually at the time and james,fool that he was,had taken it as such.One of the comments u make but never really mean.Sirus had said that he had found a new "pet".And that since he had it he might as well use it for something useful.whatever that something is ,he now thought with a grin,will be anything but useful.The grin slid from his face and he smacked himself on the forehead with the palm of his hand.Of course they had left without him.Of all the...He stood up then sat back down.He had promised lily that he would stay and finish his work and no goofing around untill he did.he looked down at the papers scatered on the table.Well,they were partially done and that had to cont for something since usually they weren't done at all.And as for the goofing around he wasn't.He was going to find his freinds and watch them goof around.And see if they needed any help doing it.With a nod and a smile at his own unbreakable logic he got up and went in search of the rest of his Marauders. (18) He went out into the Quidditch pitch. Throwing and catching the Snitch usually helped him think clearly. And there's always the chance that Lily Evens is watching, he reminded himself. He had liked her ever since third year and now, two years later, he still hadn't managed to impress her. After about fifteen minutes he spotted his friends under the tree that grew near the Great Lake. He was surprised to see his friends poring over a piece of parchment. "What's that?" he asked casually. "A map of the school." "What do you want with a map of Hogwarts? We've practically memorized it all. We probably know more than the caretaker." "James, do you really think that we'd be bothering with an ordinary map?" Sirius asked incredulously. "Well..." "Don't answer that." Sirius said quickly. "So..." "So what?" Sirius asked, bending over the map again."What's so special about the map." "James, this is a map of the entire grounds of Hogwarts. The entire grounds meaning..." Sirius began."The vanishing cabinets, the moving stairs, plus the secret passagways." Lupin ended. The three wait for this to sink in. "So? We've memorized all the passagways." "It doesn't just have passagways." Sirius said impaitiently, "It shows where certain people are at the moment.Like..." "A teacher"Peter squeaked. "And a ghost" Lupin added"Or a victim." (19) "So what do we call it?" Peter squeaked. Remus laughed. "What would be more appropriate than 'The Marauder's Map'?" Sirius scratched his chin thoughtfully "Yeh, ok. Sounds classy." James grinned "Am I part of this" Sirius rolled his eyes "Derr, why d'you think Moony suggested the..." "Well, all in for 'The Marauder's Map'?" Remus cut in briskly. The others nodded. "Right, here goes.." Lupin pressed the tip of his wand to the parchment and wrote meticulously in large, neat, curly green lettering 'Messrs..' "Right, who wants o be first?" Sirius grinned. "You will, Moony- you started this whole map thing." "Suppose, but still..." "JUST RIGHT IT!" the other three yelled. "Ok, ok..all in good time.." 'Messrs Moony..."How about Peter next?" "Sounds ok.." Peter was flushed with excitement. "And lucky last, James." 'Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs...' lupin scrathced his chin with the end of his wand. '..Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief Makers..are proud to present The Marauder's Map' he tapped the parchment and it went blank instantly. "There..ok, let's test it." he tapped the parchment again. "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good." Immediately, the curly green handwriting spread across the top of the map, bearing the words 'Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs, Purveyors of Aids to Magical Mischief Makers, are proud to present The Marauder's Map'. A thin network of lines and dots appeared, froming a map with dots labeled in miniscule handwriting of the location of individuals throughout the school, including themselves. "Yes!" James grinned. "Now we won't get in detention as often knowing where the teachers are, eh, Padfoot?" They all laughed. Remus stopped, staring at the map. "Hey, put it away, Sirius, Severus is coming.." they looked around wildly. By now, the quidditch pitch was dark and hard to see to the ends of the pitch. "Evanesco" Sirius muttered. The map vaished. (20) Later in the night, James tossed and turned in his sleep, in a desperate attempt to get some sleep. But no matter what he did, his mind drifted to Lily. He had a good mind to use that Marauders map to somehow win over Lily’s heart, but all his thoughts were clueless. So desperate he was, he even questioned his brilliance of cooking up schemes. He snapped out of his thoughts by a queer noise right in that very room. He looked around in his dormitory, all he could see was pitch darkness and the other boy’s soft snoring in the background. He chided his imagination untill there was some thuds, like footsteps. Loud and clear. Yet noone heard it except James. He ignored it, thinking him truly crazy. And after some more hours of thought in to Lily, he fell into gentle slumber. The next morning, James was awakened by Sirius’s troubled face. “The Marauder’s Map is gone!” he hissed. (21) All the Marauders, traced back their footsteps, to find out whether they misplaced it. But their search was interrupted with their classes. Herbology was the first to. The students met in the grounds, where they were directed to greenhouse 1 by the teachers. As they walked James couldn't help but watch Lily walk. She was laughing about something with her friends. James had a strong suspicion they were laughing about him. Deciding to make a good impression on Lily, he walked towards her with his chest out and his head high. He made a deeper voice and talked in a bit of an accent. "Hello Lily".Lily stared at hime with immense bewilderment. "Do you have anything stuck in you throat,James? "Why ofcourse not" Just then his voice cracked and was replaced by a squeaky one quite simlair to peter pettigrew's voice. Lily's friends giggled, realizing what he was doing, but Lily stared in confusion. "Why are you forcing that weird expression on your face. For God's sake, more makeup and nails in your head which i'm sure is quite loose, would make you Frankeinstein!" Lily's friends gave out a tremendous fit of giggles. James could feel his cheeks going red, he had to change back into himself because he quite realized he made a fool of himself. "Do you have a crick in you neck, then why are you walking with your back so straight?" Lily questioned, her expression growing more confused by the second. "Depends if you massage it.." James replied with a sly grin. Lily gave a glare and walked away. She dropped her book, and when she did a peice of papercame out which she nervously tucked in her book again. After they lingered a while on Lily, Snape's eyes flew back to James. "Found yourself a new girlfriend, Potter? I am amazed. Was Amelia so dull?" Severus sneered as he casually slicked some lint from his robes. Lily felt her face go red. Jumping from her seat, she slapped Snape across the face. - Loud Cheering - (Golden Snitch o~, Age 13 to 18, 5/15/2003 8:01:43 PM) (5) Snape reeled backwards. Still stunned and not quite believing, he hissed, "You slapped me?" Lily, who was quaking with fear, forced her head to bob up then down. "Yes, because you were very impolite to James, Sirius, Remus and me. I must insist that you leave now, before I decide I want to exercise my hand some more." James howled with laughter. Severus scowled, but backed away. "This one is protective James. But I'll be back. You'll regret this!"Lily likes the game snap.She plays it all the time with her friends Peter, James, and Remus. "First years this way!" called a man. "Who's he?" Lily asked. " I dunno." James said. "But he sure looks friendly. "Look at that tree!" Sirius said, pointing. "It looks huge and well, bad tempered. Better not try any tricks on that one. It looks like it would give you a good whomp back. A whomping willow!Looks ferocios, doesn't it, Remus?" "Um, yeah." Remus said uncomfortably. "What's the matter with you?" Peter asked. "Nothing, nothing." Remus siad quickly and forcibly cheerfully. The three boys excahnged a look. This was not the Remus they knew. As they took their first glimpse of Hogwarts, the first years heard a scream and then peals of laughter. Sirius grinned at James. "You didn't." he said. "I really couldn't resist." he replied. "What did you do now?" asked Remus in exasperation. "Yeah, what did you do James?" asked Lily eagerl. "I turned that girl into a ferret." "A ferret?" Lily asked in horror. "There wasn't really much to do. She acts like a ferret and everything. That girl Olivia, I mean." But seeing the horrified look on Lily's face made James add, "It's temporary. Harmless really." As she looked at Peeves she noticed he was aiming water balloons down at the first years. Including herself. James noticed to, and as Peeves chucked the water balloon at Lily, James dove in front of her and was the one soaked instead. This was surely the beginning of a boyfriend girlfriend relationship. As she grew older, Lily saw James grow into a good Quidditch player, but a conceited one. He constantly ruffled his hair to give it the "just got off my broomstick" look. He also began showing off by releasing and catching a stolen Snitch. Lily bagan to think that James was growing quite arrogant and maybe she was right. Because one day... She started to feel jealous, but she said to herself "What good about him? he's just a ugly show off" Later she hung out Jeff Grand, he was top of every class. After all the classes were over she started to walk to the Griffindor Hall with Jeff.He was called by Dumbledore. As soon as he left James came up to her, she started to run. She was no match for James speedy legs. He asked " Why are you mad at me?" Lily stopped and stared in disbelief " You know exactly what you did!!!!!" "I don't know what your talking about and I didn't hurt anbody!!!!" scolded James Lily's face softened, James was know never to tell a lie. " You really didn't do anything?" she questioned "No,James shook his head," Honestly" said James " Then what were you doing with that crying first-year?" asked Lily. James laughed "I was just trying to cheer him up." "Oh, ok" replied Lily (DDD, Age 8 to 12, 7/9/2003 10:57:10 PM) (13) Then they heard the sound of footsteps coming fast from behind them. They whirled around to see an angry black-haired, black-eyed Slytherin girl. "POTTER!!!" she shrieked, her shrill cry bouncing off the walls. "Eh, hey Kitty," said James rather nervously. "Who is she?" hissed Lily. Kitty stalked testily to the two of them, and roughly pushed Lily out of her way. "You listen here, Quidditch boy," she spat. "If I find out it was you who cured all of my books to bite my hands and all of my ink things to spill on me, I will personaly make sure you don't ever ride that broom again for several reasons that I don't think would be appropriate to say aloud in public," she growled. "But Kitty, I--""I don't wanna hear it!!" she snapped, cutting him off. "Ya'll can pick on my idiotic brother, I don't got a problem with that, but just stay the heck away from me or PAY!" Without warning, the pissed off burnette smacked James on the side of his head with a crack sound as her ring hit him, then turned sharply on her heel and stalked down the hall. "Who was that?" said Lily in surprise. She had seen her around, but never knew her personaly. Apparently James did. "That was Remus's ex-girlfriend," said James rubbing his head. "I figured out that you were a werewolf ages ago..just that, it would seem imprudent to ask, wouldn't it? I don't care if you're a werewolf, seriously" She blushed. Remus gaped at her. "You..don't mind me being a werewolf?" "Why should I? Ok, I'll let you in on a secret.." Aeris whipped out her wand and transformed into a silver, sleek she-wolf. Remus gasped. "Aeris..." James finally had the sense to slam the entrance shut. “Who is a werewolf in this school? Peter mumbled. James laughed and went over to the window. The whomping willow was swaying menacingly in the moonlihgt. James stopped laughing. There were two figures under the tree, one smaller than the other and the other was prodding something on the trunk with a long stick. "Psst, hey, ou two, come over here..." Sirius bounded over. "What is it..?" "Look" James whispered. A cloud shifted overhead, allowing a sliver of moonlight to illuminate the grounds below. They all gasped- Remus Lupin was being led into a trapdoor near a small hut by Madam Pomfrey.Moments later, Madam Pomfrey appeared again. There was a faint yello light in the shack. A terrible howl filled the night air. Sirius, James and Peter all shivered. It was coming from the hut. The hut where Remus was supposedly in. Was he being hurt? Without sparing as much as a glance at one another, the three friends tore out of the castle towards the shack. In the room was a werewolf, ripping up a chairleg. Sirius craned to look too. "Blimey!" he whispered weakly, "Is that..." James swallowed and nodded. "Who?" Peter said, bobbing unsuccessfully to look too. "Remus Lupin is...a werewolf." murmured Sirius, still staring through the crack. (27) Around 8:30, later that night, James and Peter crept quietly down towards the Great Hall to go outside to meet Dumbledore. "Ouch!" James swore to himself and turned to face Peter. He had stopped, causing James to bump into him. As he looked at Peter's face, he noticed that something was odd about it. Peter's skin seemed to be paler than before and his eyes had a flicker of fear poised in them. He looked around the corridor and quickly found a n empty classroom. He set off a few dungbombs, hoping someone would notice them and come running, and notice Peter.
