Melina Hughes: I was always a poor boy. I don't know when the truth actually sunk in but I can assure you it was a painful realisation that I would never go to school, or meet new people, or have a telivision. I was sixteen when I got my first job. It was handing out blueprints for $19 a hour. I worked with a guy named Jaques. He was an incredible cheerful guy and I always enjoyed chatting with him. One day he asked me "George, you're an incredibly bright young lad, why don't you apply for one of those night jobs loading boats? I hear they pay a great deal more than what we're getting. Sure, it may be a struggle at first working at night but you're strong, you can handle it." "You know what Jaques, I think I will. Maybe I will even save enough money for an education!"
